Conduct telescopic materials handler operations

A telescopic handler – telehandler, otherwise known as a Manitou is a mobile lifting plant using a telescopic boom fitted with a lifting attachment. An Employer has a “duty of care” to provide their staff with a safe workplace.
This unit covers conducting telescopic materials handler operations in the resources and infrastructure industries. This course provides participants with the necessary knowledge and skills required to safely attend to lifting operations.
Course Delivery
On acceptance of enrolment, a learner guide and review questions will be provided to the student. To fulfil the training requirements for this course, the student must read through this, attempt and/or complete the review questions and bring both with them on the day.
The course consists of face-to-face theory and practical training.
Assessment is conducted through a combination of practical demonstration and verbal or written questioning.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process which recognises a person’s knowledge and skills built from previous experience and courses. As this a one-day short course, and incorporates this assessment process, RPL is not available.

Mandatory Requirements
Unique Student Identifier (USI)
Photo ID
Good English language and literacy skills
Appropriate clothing, including a hi-visibility shirt/vest and enclosed shoes or boots.
Adequate health and fitness to carry out tasks safely.
Pre-enrolment Process:
The student must understand the course requirements and may submit an Application for Enrolment Form which includes an assessment of their language, literacy, numeracy and digital capabilities for suitability and support requirements to be successful.
DATS staff will review the application and will advise the student if their application is accepted.
Course Fees
All enrolments are considered tentative until payment of the deposit is received.
Course Outcome
Upon successful completion participants will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment in RIIHAN309F - Conduct telescopic materials handler operations.
