RII Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package

The key client groups for this qualification are local contractors and staff at a workplace. These workplaces include:

  • Civil Construction projects

 

This qualification will appeal to anyone currently employed or wanting to be employed in the civil construction industry. Clients will obtain, confirm or further their skills within the construction industry.

Safework Australia encourages formal competency-based training and assessment for the operation of this type of equipment through registered training organisations. Formal training and assessment, together with currency of experience will go a long way in demonstrating the competency of the operator.

Entry Requirements:

DATS will consider training applicants less than 18 years of age but all applicants must be able to speak and understand English in order to participate in the assessment. Oral assessments can be arranged for applicants with writing and reading difficulties.

Course Description:

This qualification reflects the role of a skilled operator working with civil construction plant, who applies a broad range of skills in a varied work context, using some discretion and judgment and relevant theoretical knowledge. The individual may provide theoretical advice and support a team

Qualification Structuring Rules:

The following table provides the packaging rules for this qualification, followed by the list of relevant units of competency.

Successful completion of twenty (20) units of competency made up of:

  • fifteen (15) core units of competency, and

  • five (5) elective units of which:

  • at least one (1) must be chosen from group A,

  • at least two (2) must be chosen from Group B,

  • no more than two (2) may be chosen from Group C,

  • no more than one (1) may be chosen elsewhere within this this training package, or from another endorsed training package, or from an accredited course

  • OR

  • at least two (2) must be chosen from group A,

  • a further three (3) may be chosen from group A, B, or C,

  • no more than one (1) may be chosen elsewhere within this this training package, or from another endorsed training package, or from an accredited course

All elective units selected from outside this qualification must reflect current occupational and learning outcomes of this AQF qualification level.

Apprenticeship requirements

Participants in the qualification will be signed up with an Australian Apprenticeship Support Network (AASN) and will enter into a Training Contract with an employer. In accordance with contract requirements, the commencement date for training will commence after the 3 month probationary period in order to determine compatibility and suitability of the apprentice.

Dickens Assessment and Training Services have made every effort to ensure the ethnic, cultural and intellectual aspects of the target group have been considered in the selection of appropriate delivery and assessment methods for this qualification

Learning Needs of Candidates

A number of units in this qualification have key competencies at Level 3, which indicates a high level of Language, Literacy and Numeracy. RTO administers a LLN assessment to all candidates at the ‘sign up’ stage to determine any required needs; and through their monitoring process can identify areas of concern and offer support throughout the course progression.
