This unit is performing high risk work & involves the skills and knowledge required to operate a forklift, including checking forklift condition, driving the forklift to fulfill operational requirements, monitoring site conditions and monitoring and maintaining forklift performance.
Course Delivery
On acceptance of enrolment, a learner guide and review questions will be provided to the student. To fulfil the training requirements for this course, the student must read through this, attempt and/or complete the review questions and bring both with them on the day.
The course consists of face-to-face theory, mathematical and practical training.
Assessment is conducted through a combination of practical demonstration and verbal or written questioning.
Recognised Prior Learning
RPL can only be applied to potentially reduce the amount of training if the student can provide evidence of their previously acquired HRWL for this class; the full assessment using the National Assessment Instrument is still required.
Course Content
Compliance with WHS licensing legislation.
Communicate and work safely with others in the work area.
Hazard identification and control.
Conduct pre-start-up, operational, shut down and secure checks according to procedures.
Operate the forklift truck and move loads safely, including driving and manoeuvring, picking up and placing of loads at various stack heights.

18 years of age or older
Unique Student Identifier (USI)
Original Identification and access to MyServicesNSW or QGov account (as per WHSQ/SafeWork NSW requirements mentioned below)
Good English language, literacy and numeracy skills
Appropriate clothing, including a hi-visibility shirt/vest and enclosed shoes or boots
Adequate health and fitness to carry out tasks safely
Pre-enrolment Process:
The student must understand the course requirements and may submit an Application for Enrolment Form which includes an assessment of their language, literacy, numeracy and digital capabilities for suitability and support requirements to be successful.
DATS staff will review the application and will advise the student if their application is accepted.

Course Outcome
Upon successful completion participants will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment in TLILIC0003- Licence to operate a forklift truck and an application for a High Risk Work (HRW) Licence.
Important
Queensland Residents: Upon successful completion of this course, participants have 60 days to submit their application for their HRW Licence online via their QGov account. Licensing fees apply.
Anyone assessed as ‘not competent’ can be reassessed on the relevant section within 2 calendar months of initial assessment (after 2 months a full reassessment will be required). All reassessments must be undertaken within 12 months. Reassessment fees apply.
Workplace, Health & Safety QLD HRW Licences are valid for 5 years.
New South Wales Residents: Students must have a MyServicesNSW account and apply for an Assessment Enrolment Number (AEN) to undertake their assessment for this High Risk Work Licence.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants have 60 days to submit their application for their HRW Licence via their MyServicesNSW account. Licensing fees apply.
Those assessed as ‘not yet competent’ may be reassessed after 48 hours and within 60 days; after 60 days, a full reassessment is required. Reassessment fees apply.
SafeWork NSW HRW Licences are valid for 5 years.

Most forklift licence courses are completed over 3 days, depending on your experience level. At DATS, we allow extra time for practical training to ensure you are confident operating a forklift in real workplace conditions.
Do I need experience to get a forklift licence?
